About RETRO AL

Located by the Mississippi river I have over 30 years experience in repairing and building guitars. I've made acoustic and electric guitars , as well as done restoration work on vintage instruments from neck resets to pulled bridges.  That's how I became Retro Al. 

 I became interested in cigar box guitars a few years ago and decided to make one for myself. I just fell in love with the raw sound they have and the history that goes with them.  They have become my passion and I put all my experience and passion into each one that I build.

You can choose from one of the styles you see here or I can custom make one for you.  You can choose what type of cigar box you like from my stock  ( these are real cigar boxes and size and styles vary)and the type of neck wood. I use Maple, oak and Poplar wood to match the instrument.  

  I make 3 string and 4 string versions but I can make a 6 string custom as well.  For pickups I use Piezo and magnetic pickups depending on the sound you prefer.
